For the past twelve months N-Vision have been working on a project developing activities for current and future service users with varying stages of dementia. The project began with a designated Reminiscence Room at the Princess Alexandra Home. Various items were purchased and donated for the room from the local area and from the residents and their families.

Then the magic began ……Residents reminisced about themes and meaningful events and activities, for example “A Saturday Night Out” This developed into a collection of items connected with dancing at local dance halls in the 1950’s ; a pair of dance shoes, a compact mirror, cigarette cards, and scent from the decade. The items are displayed in an original red satin lined shoe/dance case and are available for residents, relatives and staff to use as prompts to evoking memories and reminiscence..

Other themed boxes have been created to make the individual collections of memorabilia special.

Everyone is welcome to drop in to view our “magical room” and chat with Helen and learn how our Reminiscence Project may benefit someone you know.
