PRACTICAL HELP WITH EVERYDAY TASKS… AND FUN FOR PEOPLE WITH LOW VISION!

Whatever type or level of sight loss you have, you CAN do a lot of things, with the right help
Social Group
An elderly woman in a bright pink sweater with white star patterns, standing in a large, decorated hall with red, white, and blue bunting hanging from the ceiling. She is interacting with another person in a blue top possibly serving or receiving food, and there are several other elderly people seated at tables in the background.

N-Vision sight loss charity believes that people with visual impairments should be encouraged and supported to:

  • Carry out everyday tasks confidently and safely.
  • Gain skills and coping strategies to open up job prospects.
  • Enjoy the same hobbies and leisure activities as anyone else.
  • Generally, learn adaptive ways to manage daily life with sight loss.

To assist with this, we have a packed programme of activities (sometimes there is a small charge for refreshments at events).

These vary across the month, but include:

Technology with Confidence – coaching in plain English, for all abilities, to help you to make the best of everything from your mobile phone to the latest devices and software for sight loss support.

Cooking with Confidence – sessions to help people get back into the kitchen, preparing hot meals safely and cheaply with lots of aids, tricks and tips for anyone experiencing sight loss.

Outdoor Walking with Confidence – events and help to get you outdoors more, in accessible places that provide fresh air and exercise. We also offer training for family and friends in the Guided Walking technique.

Learn to Dance Classes – Our dancing classes are a great way to exercise whilst having fun. Its good for your overall physical health as it tones your muscles and improves your balance. It is also a social occasion. Our clients have made friends through our activity groups and this includes Learn to Dance. The classes are taken by Roselyn, who is our brilliant qualified and experienced dance teacher. She ensures that all participants are comfortable at the pace of certain dances, so no dance is too strenuous.

Chair Yoga and Wellbeing – Chair Yoga is gentle stretching exercises performed whilst seated in a chair, making yoga accessible to all. Breathing techniques to calm and soothe and meditation. It’s great for beginners. The benefits include increased flexibility, strength and mental well being. It’s relaxing and fun! Julia is our trained and experienced teacher.

Arts & Crafts Group – Crafting can make us feel a mixture of calming, meditative and excited sometimes frustrated! Positive relationships are formed by crafting in groups, laughing, helping each other, sharing skills and learning new ones. So come along to craft and chat, make new friends. Pick up tips, share your own or learn a new skill!

Gardening Club – Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just enjoy being outdoors, everyone is welcome. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get involved with light gardening activities, learn new skills, enjoy some fresh air, and spend time with others in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our sessions are designed to be accessible for people living with sight loss, making gardening an enjoyable experience for all. Come along, get your hands dirty, and help our gardens flourish while making new friends. Join us every Wednesday afternoon from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at N-Vision for our friendly Gardening Club.

Weekly Social Club

This is held every Thursday from 10am to 2.30pm in our Sharples Hall Activities Centre. It is a full day of sight-loss-aware activities and entertainment. You get a 2-course hot lunch, tea and coffee are served throughout the day and, most importantly, the chance to relax with friends.

There is a £20 charge for the day to cover the costs of food and entertainment, unless it’s a taster session, for which the charge is just £10.

Community Café Clubs

These are informal gatherings of like-minded people, who relax together in accessible and welcoming venues once a month.

Though it’s largely about making friends and socialising as a person with sight loss, you also have an opportunity to get advice and support from N-Vision staff and volunteers.

Friends, family and carers are welcome too – everyone purchases their own refreshments with help from venue staff and the N-Vision team.

Our Café Clubs all start at 11am and usually finish around 12.30pm
