Befriending Service
N-Vision offers a befriending service to visually impaired clients living in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre to individuals who are feeling lonely and isolated in their homes.
For someone living with sight loss, especially if they live alone, a friendly face, a regular chat and some companionship can make a world of difference.
Our N-Vision Befriending Service provides regular companionship through home visits, helping people who may be feeling isolated to build confidence, reconnect with their community and enjoy getting out and about again.
What could you do as a Befriending Volunteer?
As a volunteer, you could:
-
Pop in for a chat and a cuppa.
-
Go for a short walk and enjoy some fresh air.
-
Accompany someone into town for a coffee.
-
Spend an hour together enjoying conversation and company.
-
Help someone regain confidence and reconnect with their local community.
For some of our clients, these are things they may not have been able to do for a long time. Having someone there can make a real difference, helping them feel more confident and supporting their mental and physical wellbeing.
Don’t worry — we’ll give you the training you need
Before becoming a Befriending Volunteer, you’ll take part in our Visual Awareness Training.
The good news is that it’s just one day, it’s completely free, and lunch is included!
It’s also a practical course, so rather than simply sitting and listening to presentations, you’ll have the opportunity to learn through practical activities and gain a better understanding of what it can be like to live with sight loss.
The training will help you develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills you need to support someone safely and positively as a Befriending Volunteer.
One day of training could give you the confidence to make a lasting difference to someone else.
It’s rewarding for volunteers too
Befriending isn’t just about what you can give — you can gain a lot from the experience too.
Our volunteers can develop confidence, learn new skills, meet new people and enjoy the incredible sense of reward that comes from making a genuine difference to someone’s life.
Most importantly, befriending is about friendship and shared interests — not disability. It’s about spending time together, finding things you have in common and building a meaningful connection.
We’re particularly looking for Befriending Volunteers for our clients in Over Wyre and Garstang.
If you have some spare time, enjoy meeting people and would like to make a real difference to someone living with sight loss, we’d love to hear from you.
